Questions

Here you can see the best days to travel in the Chinese almanac, each with the reason it was picked. Days the almanac rules out for every activity are already left off, and adding a birthday trims the list further for your family.

Which days in the next 60 are best to travel?

Going by the Chinese almanac, with the worst days removed, 19 days from Tue, Oct 27 to Fri, Dec 25 rate good or better. The nearest is Tue, Oct 27; the top pick is Sat, Nov 21.

Which days are ruled out?

Year Breaker and Month Breaker days, the day before each equinox, solstice and season start (Si Li and Si Jue), and Yang Gong’s taboo days are always removed. 5 days in this range were marked good for this but fell on one of them.

What does adding a birthday do?

It also removes days that clash with that person’s Chinese zodiac animal. You can add several family members. Birthdays stay on this device.

Which days are considered auspicious for travel in the Chinese calendar?

The almanac must list travel as a good (yi) activity for the day, and it must not also appear under avoid. Beyond that, the old books favor days with lucky stars such as Heavenly Virtue, Monthly Virtue, Post Horse, Heavenly Horse and Heavenly Joy. They also favor two day officers: Establish days and Open days. A day with two or more of these is rated Best; otherwise it is rated Good.

Does the Chinese almanac list travel as an activity?

Yes, travel is one of the activities the almanac lists as good (yi) on certain days. This site draws on the Xieji Bianfang Shu, a classical text on date selection, volume 11, for its travel picks. Tradition says to look for days where travel is listed as good and not listed under avoid.

Which days should I not travel according to the Chinese calendar?

The almanac rules out five kinds of days for every activity, travel included: Year Breaker days, Month Breaker days, Si Li days, Si Jue days and Yang Gong's taboo days. Si Li is the day before an equinox or solstice, and Si Jue is the day before a season begins. Yang Gong's days fall on fixed lunar dates. This site leaves all of them out of its list.

How many days in the almanac are good for travel?

For 2027, the almanac lists 55 days as Best and 56 as Good for travel. Another 17 look good on paper but are ruled out, for example as Year Breaker or Month Breaker days. Those 17 are not counted among the good days.

What time of day is best to set off?

The almanac points to the Yellow Path double-hours of a chosen day, which are the ones it calls auspicious. This site suggests daytime ones only, between 5 am and 7 pm, and shows up to 3. If you enter birthdays, it skips any double-hour that clashes with those people.
